TWUSUPER is a superannuation fund for the Transport Industry and offers insurance cover for those in dangerous occupations. Although most super funds include insurance cover as part of membership, they may not cover certain occupations that are considered ‘hazardous’. If you work in transport, jobs other super funds commonly exclude from cover include drivers, loaders, mechanics, flight crews, warehouse workers, and bus drivers. |
|
|
TWUSUPER have no occupational exclusions - which means we cover all transport jobs.
Certain jobs within the transport and logistics industry can be dangerous, so the fund offers insurance cover to protect you and your family if you die or suffer from an illness or injury. Dangerous occupations include: -
road driver (e.g. truck, bus and courier)
- rail driver (e.g. train)
- machinery and stationary plant operator (e.g. crane operator)
- mobile plant operator (e.g. forklift driver, tractor operator, ramp agent)
- storeperson (e.g. warehouse worker)
-
factory process worker (e.g. product assembler)
- other labours (e.g. freight handler, stevedore, handyperson)
- construction and mining labourer (e.g. building and plumbing)
- automotive and engineering trade worker (e.g. diesel mechanic, aircraft maintenance engineer)
-
sports and personal service worker (e.g. cabin crew, driving instructor, heavy machinery driver trainer)
- design, engineering, science and transport professional (e.g. charter flight pilot, mining engineer, mechanical engineer)
- protective services worker (e.g. cash transit, security).
The Fund offers Death, Total and Permanent Disablement, and Income Protection cover:
Death cover (including terminal illness cover) provides you and/or your beneficiaries with a lump sum payout if you die or suffer from an illness, or have incurred an injury, that is likely to result in death within 24 months. Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover provides a lump sum payment if you become totally and permanently disabled.
Income protection cover provides monthly income payments for up to two years if you are unable to work due to illness or injury.
Many details affecting your insurance cover – such as when insurance cover automatically starts for you, your level of cover, and the insurance fees you pay – depend on your age and occupation. You can tell us about your occupation (including changes to your occupation) by calling us on 1800 222 071 between 8am and 8pm (AEST/AEDT) weekdays.
Any time cover starts for you, we will send you an Insurance Welcome Letter outlining the details.
You can reduce or cancel cover at any time by calling 1800 222 071, but if you need to increase cover later you'll need to provide medical and lifestyle evidence. |

Steering Healthy Minds (SHM) is a collaboration between key organisations with interests in the transport industry. Established in 2018, QTA was a one of the key stakeholders in the Working Group who recognised that mental health issues in the industry are on the rise and want to offer meaningful support for workers and establish programs and support for employers. SHM mission is for a transport sector in which people are safe and healthy in their work. Until this time, we believe workers must be supported through mental health programs. We enable this through Steering Healthy Minds – providing on the ground peer to peer support for transport industry workers.
The aims of SHM are to normalise the conversation about mental health issues in the same manner as physical injuries, to promote on the ground support for workers who experience mental health concerns, and to support organisations to establish peer to peer mental health programs for workers.

|
How can Steering Health Minds support your business?
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is a key component of our Steering Healthy Minds (SHM) program. MHFA is the help provided to an employee who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
With the support of sponsors, the training is being offered free to employees in the transport industry.

FNQ-Feedback request: full road closure times for night works on Captain Cook Highway, Wangetti
TMR is seeking your feedback on proposed full road closure timeframes for night works to assist with preparation for planning repair works on the Captain Cook Highway.
A number of sections of the Captain Cook Highway received significant damage as a result of Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Currently, there are a number of single lane sections under traffic control on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas.
Some repair works on the Captain Cook Highway will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic on this busy road. Full closures of the road will be required to enable the repairs to be carried out in the shortest possible timeframe and ensure safety for crews and road users.
TMR is planning to carry out night works on the Captain Cook Highway involving full road closures each night between 9 pm and 4 am on a section of highway between Rex Lookout and Turtle Cove, Wangetti. Dates for the works are not yet confirmed however it is expected repair works will commence soon and span over the coming months. The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
We are seeking your feedback on the proposed full road closure times of 9 pm to 4 am and the impact this may have on planned travel at night.
Please provide feedback to TMR’s Cairns Office via email to cairns.office@tmr.qld.gov.au or via telephone to 4045 7144 by Friday 22 March 2024. |
