On behalf of the team at QTA, I wish you all a Happy New Year. I do hope that you all enjoyed some time with family and friends during the festive season.
The New Year has started with an interesting mix of weather with ex-tropical cyclone Seth down causing some damage down the SE coast, and of course, Queensland's escalating COVID cases since the borders opened. I have been in contact with many members who have advised me of the impacts of the long testing wait times and results time impacting driver fatigue and causing scheduling issues. This, in addition to staff shortages is adversely impacting the supply chain around the country.
Fortunately, some relief is in site. Following our continued strong advocacy at both State and Federal level, we are pleased to hear the announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison of the changes to the National Freight Protocol removing the requirement for truck drivers to continue to undergo a 7-day COVID PCR testing regime.
However, this will NOT be implemented in Queensland until the Queensland Freight Protocol is officially changed by Queensland Health. We will provide an update as soon as the changes are approved. Until this time, PCR testing requirements will remain in place. Please refer to our 2021 issue 112 for reference.
On another important topic, the supply of AdBlue is reported to be on-track with Incitec Pivot on track to deliver 3 million litres per week of AdBlue by final week in January. Incitec Pivot are also progressing along well with a manufacturing plan for the key ingredient of AdBlue – technical grade urea which has previously been imported. Manufacturers and suppliers have advised significant improvements in stock with close monitoring of key sites. Hot spot areas including South coast NSW, Riverina, Murray Valley Vic and Western Australia are being given supply. It is recommended to check supply with service stations on the major fuel supplier websites.
Please continue to stay in touch with any issues you are experiencing as we navigate this period. The next few months no doubt will continue to place challenges on your business and we will do our very best to support you through these wherever you are around the country.
Stay safe and healthy
Gary
