Following the weekends election result and this morning's swearing in of our 31st Prime Minister, we would like to acknowledge the Hon. Anthony Albanese on taking over as leader of the country. With some seats still undecided, we are yet to know if Labor will form a majority government however, this will be made clear in the coming days. We will also be interested in the forthcoming Ministerial appointments for portfolios such as Transport, Infrastructure and Industrial Relations which will be the target of continued advocacy of our Four the Future of Road Freight Election Priorities.
The QTA would also like to acknowledge all the candidates who contested seats and those who are now confirmed member for their respective seats.
During the past six weeks, we advocated strongly for our Four the Future of Road Freight Election Priorities through media channels, social media and sending our Blueprint to all the major parties. Now that the election is over, this advocacy will continue and we will work hard on the issues that are impacting your business, including the number one issue of the fuel excise and road user charge that is impacting the ability to claim fuel tax credits. If you have any concerns, as always, give me a call to talk them through.
The QTA would also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the retirement of Paul Ryan who has been a long standing industrial relations advisor at the Victorian Transport Association and a National Industrial Advisor to Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO). Paul has been a close associate of our Employment Relations Manager's over the past 25 years and we appreciate the support he has provided to the QTA during this time. We wish him the best in his retirement.
With the rain forecast to continue this week, please take care on the roads, be patient and drive to conditions.
Stay safe
Gary
