SEQ: Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road flyover, Bald Hills – Traffic monitoring works
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads (08.04.2025)
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is installing new traffic cameras and sensors on the Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road flyover (overpass) at Bald Hills. Cameras and sensors will provide real time information on traffic flow, vehicle loads and road conditions.
Work activities
- Installation of new underground traffic sensors and adjustments to associated electrical wires and cables.
- Cranes will be used to lift and position new cameras into place.
Timing
- Works commenced late March 2025 and will be completed mid-April 2025, construction and weather conditions permitting.
- Night works will be carried out from 9pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday.
- Intermittent closures of 10 minutes for both lanes of the Gateway Motorway at Bald Hills will be in effect between 1am and 5am on Sunday 13 and Monday 14 April 2025.
- Night works are required for road user safety, and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network.
- While majority of the works will be undertaken at night, some Saturday or other out of hours works may be required.
Expected impacts
- Traffic changes will be in effect on the Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road. These include heavy vehicle detours, road shoulder closures, temporary ramp and single lane closures with traffic control in both directions, changes to traffic flow, temporary speed reductions and short-term traffic disruptions. Queensland Police Service will be onsite as oversize vehicles are required to carry cranes into the work area.
- Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
- Nearby residents and businesses can expect to experience short term impacts including increased noise, dust, and odour during the works.
- Reversing beepers and flashing lights are a safety requirement and will be used at all times during working hours.
Every effort will be made to minimise impacts on the local community and surrounds.
TMR appreciates your patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out.
