Road Conditions: Gympie Bypass now open to traffic!

Source:  Department of Transport and Main Roads (16.10.2024)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads would like to advise that the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to Curra, Section D (Gympie Bypass) project is now open to traffic.

Motorists are now driving on a new 26-kilometre, four-lane divided highway between the existing Bruce Highway interchange at Woondum (just south of Gympie) and Curra. The bypass includes three new interchanges, with a new access into Gympie and main access to the Cooloola Coast now being via a new interchange at Gympie Connection Road.

Opening of the Gympie Bypass will relieve pressure on the old highway and local roads, enhance safety and capacity, increase flood resilience and improve productivity.

We would like to thank the community for their patience during construction and look forward to the many benefits the new bypass will provide the region.

While we have finished major construction for the project, there will be some intermittent works over the next few weeks while the crew finishes some minor activities at either end of the new highway.

Please keep your eye out for any traffic changes, allow some extra travel time, and follow the instructions of construction signage on site.
