SEQ: Bremer Crossover - Trial of two-load OSOM packet

Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads, Heavy Vehicles Unit (16.01.2025)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in partnership with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) will be conducting a six (6) month trial of a two-load oversize overmass (OSOM) packet, for the Bremer Crossover.

A two-load OSOM packet is defined as a secondary load (under 4.5 metres in width) travelling in conjunction with an already approved QPS escorted load, crossing the Bremer Crossover, during the hours of 11pm and 4am.

A recent review of current eligible over dimensional vehicle permits utilising the Bremer automated crossover arrangement (Bremer Crossover) identified the potential for improved efficiency during hours of operation.

Eligibility

To participate in the trial you must:

  • have a heavy vehicle combination less than 4.5m in width, and
  • must have a booking with QPS for an existing load under the same company name, and
  • must contact Heavy Vehicle Access Unit (TMR) to seek acceptance into the two-packet OSOM load trial
  • Smaller load must have a NHVR permit.

Smaller loads (less than 4.5m in width) that do not have an agreement in place, under the trial, but still attend the Bremer Crossover will be grounded and not permitted to move.

You can register to participate in this trial

Expressions of interest is now open.

Effectiveness of the two-load OSOM packet arrangement will be evaluated at the conclusion of the trial. However, at any time during the trial, should it be determined the risk of continuing the trial becomes unacceptable, the trial will cease immediately.
