Lane closures along Captain Cook Highway for inspections and surveys
From 11 November until 20 December 2024, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be completing site monitoring, surveying and investigations along sections of the Captain Cook Highway between Pebbly Beach and Yule Point.
During this time, for the safety of road users and crews, additional sections of the highway will be subject to temporary single lane traffic control from 9am to 3pm. Road users should plan their journey and expect delays of up to 15 minutes on these sections of Captain Cook Highway.
The works are required as part of Cyclone Jasper reconstruction related to pavement damage and geotechnical investigations for future repairs of multiple landslips along the Captain Cook Highway.
Due to the nature of the surveying and geotechnical investigations required these cannot occur during the evening. TMR has engaged a suitable qualified contractor to complete the long term and complex, geotechnical, pavement and other restoration construction works needed along the Captain Cook Highway to restore it to its pre-cyclone function.
Works will be programmed from late 2024 until mid-2026 across the state-controlled road network in Far North Queensland, with the highest priority focus on sites currently under traffic control. Completion of the reconstruction works are subject to favourable weather and site conditions and availability of resources.
We thank road users for their continued patience as we work to repair Far North Queensland’s roads.
Road users are reminded, when approaching roadworks, to turn hazard lights on when at the end of the queue as a warning to approaching drivers and to stay left to ensure large vehicles travelling in the opposite direction can pass safely.
For up-to-date information about the state-controlled road network, check the QLDTraffic website or call 13 19 40.
