NSW-Important Update - PBS and Telematics
In December 2023, Transport for NSW advised the freight industry that telematics requirements would be updated for some vehicles to better support consistency and safety on our roads. It was advised the updated requirements would come into effect in May 2024.
Today (3/5/34) the National Class 2 PBS Level 1 and 2A Truck and Dog Trailer Mass and Dimension Notice 2022 and the National Class 3 20 m Long 3-axle Truck and 4-axle Dog Trailer Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2022 have been updated to include Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) as a condition of access at General Mass Limits (GML) and Concessional Mass Limits (CML). Enrolment in higher assurance telematics applications, such as Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) or Intelligent Access Program (IAP), are also acceptable alternatives to RIM.
The National Class 2 Performance Based Standards (High Productivity Notice) 2022 will also be updated on 1 June 2024 to provide further clarity on telematics conditions for PBS vehicles operating under this Notice. The Notice will be updated to include the following telematics conditions:
1QML1 = Quad-Axle Mass Limits 1| 2 QML2 = Quad-Axle Mass Limits 2 | 3RIM = Road Infrastructure Management | 4TMA = Telematics Monitoring Application| 5IAP = Intelligent Access Program
Operators are advised to contact their service providers to ensure their vehicles are enrolled and monitored in the appropriate NSW PBS telematics schemes.
Transport for NSW uses telematics data to support expanding high productivity vehicle access in NSW for the safe, sustainable and productive movement of freight in NSW.
More information on RIM, including system requirements and how to enrol, is available on the Transport Certification Australia (TCA) website via this link. More information on Notices is available on the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) website via this link.
