NSW: Changed traffic conditions on the Newell Highway at Parkes

Source: Transport for NSW (11.04.2025)

Changed traffic conditions will be in place on the Newell Highway from Tuesday 15 April for up to three months (weather permitting), while access works are completed on the new Parkes Bypass.

On Tuesday 15 April all traffic will be switched on to the new Parkes Bypass. Motorists travelling the Newell Highway through Parkes will be able to travel along the entire Bypass, in both directions.

The OSOM route will be the new Parkes Bypass.

OSOM vehicles travelling east from the Newell Highway will take the new Parkes Bypass to the Condobolin Road roundabout (exit west) and travel via the new alignment of Hartigan Avenue.

Sections of the existing Newell Highway will be closed at the north and south ends of Parkes:

North: the existing Newell Highway will be closed between the Currajong rest area and Maguire Road.

South: the existing Newell Highway will be closed between Saleyards and Barkers Roads.

Bogan Road south of the Bypass will be accessed from the new Parkes Bypass, and open to southbound vehicles only.

Rest Areas

  • The Currajong rest area (north of Parkes) will remain open and allowance has been made for turning operations.
  • The southern rest area adjacent to Saleyards Rd will be closed. Access will be returned after 6 weeks.
  • For more information on available Rest Areas visit the Rest Areas Map

At the completion of the access works, both the current Newell Highway and the new Bypass will be open to traffic.
