Cyclone Alfred-NSW Traffic Update-5/3/25
Transport for NSW is working closely with emergency services as Tropical Cyclone Alfred impacts Northern NSW. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and potential major flooding are expected from Taree to Tweed Heads and into Queensland.
While freight is essential in keeping NSW moving, operators and drivers are urged to avoid travel through impacted areas where possible. Severe weather may create hazardous conditions and coastal erosion. Please plan ahead and assess conditions before travel.
If you must travel, allow for plenty of additional travel time. Please use Live Traffic NSW for the latest road closures and real time traffic conditions.
Travel over specific structures
Transport for NSW is asking all heavy vehicle operators to avoid any non-essential travel over the following structures from 00:01 hours, Friday 7 March 2025 to 23:59 hours, Monday 10 March 2025.
UGL Regional Linx, as the manager of these assets has advised Transport that these structures have current load rating restrictions in place and may be further impacted by the extreme weather event being generated by Cyclone Alfred. The structures will be inspected as soon as conditions permit throughout Monday 10 March 2025 to check for any weather related damage. Transport encourages all road users to check NSW Live Traffic for further updates and advice.
Live Traffic NSW also has a link to the Restricted Access Vehicles map to help you plan an alternative route if required.
You can download the Live Traffic NSW app here.
Please note:
Unless specified otherwise, operators of Class 1,2 & 3 vehicles travelling under a Notice must consult their relevant enforceable network map to confirm a suitable approved alternate route.
Operators of Class 1, 2 & 3 vehicles travelling under a Permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the NHVR.
