Gary Mahon, Chief Executive Officer, QTA said, “Our Safety Trailer Partnership Program is an effective way for us to support organisations who proactively promote road safety messaging. This new partnership with MAIC will see the striking barramundi safety messaging on a Lindsay Transport b-double trailer set and features as a travelling billboard moving throughout Queensland.”
Neil Singleton, Insurance Commissioner, MAIC said, “We are pleased to partner with the QTA in this new innovative program to increase awareness of our Be a Mate, Don’t Tailgate safety campaign. Within the Queensland CTP scheme approximately 50% of all new claims for people injured as a result of road trauma are due to rear end crashes. The majority of these crashes are largely preventable if motorists leave a safe following distance to the vehicle in front.
This campaign has a couple of unique aspects in that the trailer will be viewed ‘in the moment’ by motorists across Queensland and will prompt them to assess their following distance. An easy way to do this is to count one barramundi, two barramundi, three barramundi which takes about three seconds to say. Allowing an extra second or ‘barramundi’ reflects the importance of exercising even greater caution around heavy vehicles which take longer to stop. Our scheme data tells us that when a heavy vehicle is involved in a crash, the consequences on those involved in terms of personal injury is often more significant.”
With a plan to roll out more of these campaigns in 2023, this is the second B-double trailer set on the road as part of the QTA’s new Safety Trailer Partnership Program that commenced during 2022. The inaugural trailer set partner was Transurban and featured their “Are you in my blind spot?” safety messaging on a Followmont Transport B-double trailer set.
The launch will be held at Oxley Creek Common, Rocklea - Located off Sherwood Road, near the Brisbane and Rocklea markets at 10am on Monday 12 December 2022.
