What is the Project?

The QTA Driving Townsville's Future Project is is funded by Jobs Queensland through the Grow Your Own Regional Workforce Program and powered by the Queensland Government's Good people. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032.

The QTA Driving Townsville's Future Program is an accelerated 10-day full time pre-apprenticeship / traineeship program that offers entry level training to create a pathway into the transport and logistic sectors. 
 

How was the Project Developed?

QTA developed the project based on extensive industry intelligence gathered from road freight operators and fleet owners. It was evident that there is a lack of entry level training and pathways into the transport and logistic sectors. Designed to increase the number of job-ready candidates into the workforce to fill the skills shortage in transport and logistics in the Townsville region.
 

What does the Program offer?

The course is designed to deliver accredited units in the Certificate III Driving Operations (TLI31222) that also cross over into the Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations (TLI 30321). Included will be unit TLIF0009 - Ensure the safety of transport activities (Chain of Responsibility) and for eligible participants an additional training in unit TLIC1051 - Operate Commercial Vehicle will also be offered.

Graduating participants will then be able to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) completed units for credits to a full qualification should they wish to continue training in either the Certificate III Driving Operations (TLI31222) delivered in the workplace as a Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship, Bus Driver Traineeship or the Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations (TLI30321).
 

Who can apply?

Participants of the program can be seeking an employment pathway into the transport &/or logistics sector. Individual employers will also be able to enroll employees who are new entrants or wishing to upskill to become a heavy vehicle driver, progressing employees identified within the business for career progression.


When will the program run?

The Program will consist of two intakes. 

Intake One
Dates: Monday 21st October 2024 - Friday 1st November 2024
Time: 8am-4pm
Location: Brown & Hurley Townsville Branch (662 Ingham Rd, Bohle QLD 4818)

Intake Two
Dates: February/March 2025
Time: 8am-4pm
Location: Townsville TBC

  • This program will require commitment from participants who will be required to satisfy the employment standards and expections of the employer.
  • Participants will be required to satisfy working in Australia eligibility requirements and undertake any necessary screening (including medical, fitness to drive and drug and alcohol testing) as required by the employer. This may incur a financial investment from the participant which will be determined by the employer.
  • Participants must have their own transport to take part in the program.
  • Participants must be available to attend the entire training program (10 days). 
  • Any media for the Project will only be used if approved by the participant.
