Australian Industry Standards (AIS) is inviting responses from industry to their annual Industry Skills Survey about key issues affecting skills and workforce development and are encouraging key industry stakeholders to participate.
Your input will assist the development of the 2022 Industry Outlooks.
The skills surveys aim to build a whole-of-industry picture and will be used to assist in identifying new or emerging skills needs and help inform workforce skills needs for the sectors you represent. It can be completed online and should take around 5 to 10 minutes.
The survey will remain open until close of business on Monday, 20 December 2021.

On the Right Track: How to keep your drivers safe and your business compliant
|
The transport and logistics industry has a number of laws and regulations in place to ensure Australian roads are safe for everyone. With the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) legislation in full effect, it’s vital that everyone - not just drivers - is aware of their role.
Everyone in the supply chain, from directors and managers to contractors, suppliers and drivers is responsible for ensuring operations are compliant and running safely at all times. If a driver is involved in a serious incident, ignorance will not be an adequate defence. You can’t contract out safety and compliance.
How do you ensure that the links in your chain don’t come undone and put your business at risk?

Bruce Highway Upgrade Project
|
This year has been like no other and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has worked with you to continue to build and deliver a safer, more efficient road network for Queensland in 2021.
These holidays, if you're out and about for work, travelling or visiting family and friends, it's important to know that while most of the worksites along the Bruce Highway may be shut down, speed restrictions are still in place due to changed driving conditions and we need to remain alert when driving around roadworkers and through roadworks.
With so much activity happening along the Bruce Highway, we all have a role to play in keeping ourselves and each other safe these holidays. This includes being aware of roadworkers and roadworks safety.
The messages here are very clear - slow down, look out for roadworkers, drive to conditions, obey the speed signs and be sure to plan ahead. And remember, the Queensland Police Service conducts speed enforcement activities in and around roadwork sites too.
For more information on projects occurring in your area, please visit the TMR website Bruce Highway Upgrade Program and for updated information on traffic conditions visit the QLDTraffic website or download the app from the app store.

Warrego Highway (Roma-Mitchell) - Asphalt Works
|
The Department of Transport and Main Roads will be commencing asphalt works on various sections of the Warrego Highway (Roma - Mitchell) between 3.16km and 72.45km west of Roma from 8 December 2021, weather and conditions permitting.
The works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm over a 10-day fortnight and are expected to be completed by 22 December 2021.
Asphalt works are part of our ongoing maintenance program for the South West District and are an important part of the district's overall maintenance program.
We will try to minimise traffic delays as much as possible by using single lane closures, speed restrictions and traffic control. Motorists should slow down, drive carefully and follow the instructions of traffic controllers and construction signage and allow up to an additional 15 minutes for their journey.
Works may restrict wide-load vehicle access and permit holders are asked to check the TMR Conditions of Operation Database before travelling

Pacific Motorway M1 Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade (Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI))
|
The Gold Coast’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange at Burleigh (Exit 87) has been in construction since mid-2020 as part of Package A Varsity Lakes to Burleigh.
The DDI is a new and innovative interchange configuration designed to manage increasing traffic demands and improve efficiency by moving large traffic volumes more quickly and safely.
When complete, the DDI will also include new active transport facilities, including a dedicated bike path and separated shared user paths, with safe pedestrian refuge points.
As construction progresses in this area, increased traffic changes and temporary detours can be expected in the New Year until the completion of Package A in mid to late 2022.
What to expect
From January to April 2022, works to build the DDI will continue at Exit 87. To undertake these activities safely:
- a number of temporary changed traffic conditions will be required, with speed reductions and detours in place.
- some temporary detours will be in place, with access to and from Hutchinson Street and Oyster Creek Drive (including Old Burleigh Town) being maintained at all times.
Traffic staging plans are currently being finalised and more information about these works and expected construction impacts will be made available to the community in advance of any changes being implemented.
