SEQ: Helidon to Athol | Toowoomba Bypass | Various impacts to access

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises there will be numerous closures on the Toowoomba Bypass throughout the month of March 2025.

Warrego West Interchange at Charlton and Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road Interchange
Toowoomba Bypass lane closures will affect both southbound and northbound lanes on select dates starting from 3 March 2025 and finishing on 19 March 2025, due to necessary asphalt and retexturing works.
The location of these works is between the Warrego West interchange at Charlton and the Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road Interchange.
Restrictions during works
The southbound and northbound lanes will be closed to all traffic from 9pm to 5am.
Reopening to traffic
The southbound and northbound lanes will reopen to all traffic from 5am onwards.
Approved detour
Warrego Highway, Troys Road, Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road, O’Mara Road, Warrego Highway. Please see map below.

Toowoomba Cecil Plains road Interchange to Gore Highway Interchange
Toowoomba Bypass Lane closures will affect both southbound and northbound lanes on select dates starting from 4 March and finish on 18 March 2025. The closure is required for asphalt and retexturing works.
The location of these works is between the Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road interchange and Gore Highway interchange.
Restrictions during works
The southbound and northbound lanes will be closed to all traffic from 9pm to 5am.
Reopening to traffic
The southbound and northbound lanes will reopen to all traffic from 5am onwards.

Gore Highway, Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road, Carrington Road, Taylor Street, Tor Street, Anzac Avenue, Toowoomba Athol Road, Gore Highway (map below).

Mort Street Interchange and Warrego East Interchange at Helidon Spa
Toowoomba Bypass lane closures will affect both eastbound and westbound lanes starting from 21 March and finishing on 22 March 2025. The closure is required essential maintenance work.
The location of these works is between Mort Street Interchange and Warrego East Interchange at Helidon Spa.
Restrictions during works
The southbound and northbound lanes will be closed to all traffic from 5pm to 6pm the following day.
Post work restrictions
- Eastbound vehicles over 5.0m wide must detour if they cannot clear a 1.2m high barrier.
- Heavy vehicles up to 5.5m wide that clear the barrier can use the Toowoomba Bypass.
Specific heavy vehicle restrictions
- 5.1m - 6.2m wide (max height 5.4m):
- Travel not allowed between 5pm to 6pm the following day
- No permit amendment required
- 6.21m - 7.9m wide (max height 5.4m):
- Travel not allowed between 5pm to 6pm the following day
- Submit Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for alternate route approval
- Email completed TMP to qldaccess_hvropo@tmr.qld.gov.au
- Over 7.9m wide:
- Travel not allowed between 5pm to 6pm the following day
- Submit permit application and completed TMP through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
Approved detour
- Gore Highway, Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road, Carrington Road, Taylor Street, Tor Street, Anzac Avenue, Toowoomba Athol Road, Gore Highway (map below).
- Suitable for up to B-Double and 30m PBS Class 2B vehicles. Road trains will need to break down at Charlton.
