Road Conditions Update-QLD-SWQ-Twba Bypass-road access changes 5-8/7/24

Update from TMR Heavy Vehicle Unit 24/6/24

Further works are planned to occur on the Toowoomba Bypass and road access changes will take affect from Friday, 5 July through to Monday, 8 July 2024. 

Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of the Toowoomba Bypass will be closed from: 

  • 5pm on Friday 5 July and will reopen at 6am Saturday 6 July 2024.
  • 5pm on Saturday 6 July and will reopen at 6am Sunday 7 July 2024.
  • 5pm on Sunday 7 July and will reopen at 6am Monday 8 July 2024. 

Location of reduced access and closure will occur between the Warrego West interchange at Charlton and the Warrego East interchange at Helidon Spa. 

Restrictions during works 

  • Eastbound traffic lanes will be closed to all traffic.
  • Westbound vehicles up to 7m wide can use the Toowoomba Bypass. 

Restrictions after works 

  • Eastbound vehicles over 5.0m wide must detour if load cannot clear 1.2m high barrier. 
  • Eastbound vehicles up to 6.8m wide and can clear 1.2m high barrier can use the Toowoomba Bypass. 

Vehicles 5.1m – 6.2m wide and no higher than 5.4m

  • Only permitted to travel through Toowoomba between the hours of 9pm to 5am. 
  • No permit amendment required. 

Vehicles 6.21m – 7.9m wide and no higher than 5.4m 

  • Only permitted to travel through Toowoomba between the hours of 11pm to 3am. 
  • Must submit a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for the alternate route only. TMR approval is required prior to travel. 
  • ​TMP must identify pinch points and wrong side of road travel on the approved alternate route. 

Vehicles 7.9m wide and above 

  • Only permitted to travel through Toowoomba between 11pm to 3am. 
  • Must identify an alternate route. 
  • Submit a permit application, with a completed TMP through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator

Warrego Highway, Troys Road, Carrington Road, Taylor Street, Tor Street. James Street, Toowoomba Connection Road, Warrego Highway. Please refer to map below: 

Please note: The detour is only suitable up to B-Double and 30m PBS Class 2B heavy vehicles. Road Trains will need to break down at Charlton.
