Road Conditions Update-FNQ-Closure of Kennedy Highway on 5/10/23

TMR will close the Kennedy Highway on Thursday 05 October 2023 to conduct preparatory works to remove a heavy vehicle from the road shoulder.

The closure will occur between the intersection at Longlands Gap Rd and Kennedy Highway, and the intersection at Tumoulin Rd and Kennedy Hwy.

The heavy vehicle rolled over in mid-August and TMR contractors will use specialised recovery equipment to stabilise and recover the equipment.

TMR contractors will close one lane from 7am to 11pm to allow for earthworks to be conducted, followed by a full closure in both directions from 11am to 3pm, weather and construction conditions permitting.

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place.

The complex nature of the recovery will require TMR to conduct minor vegetation clearing and stabilisation works prior to removing the equipment.

TMR will close the highway for the safety of road users and road crews conducting the delicate operation.

Motorists should seek an alternative route and plan their journey accordingly.

This operation will be followed by a second closure, at a date and time to be confirmed, to fully remove the equipment.
