Road Conditions: Temporary traffic conditions lifted - Warrigal Creek Bridge, Flinders Highway
Information from Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) - North Queensland Region
TMR would like to advise that temporary speed limits and contra-flow single-lane operation at Warrigal Creek Bridge, located approximately 125km west of Charters Towers, will soon be lifted. During May and June 2023, a speed reduction from 100km/hr to 20km/hr and a single-lane traffic flow restriction was implemented for TMR to undertake technical assessment.
Speed limits on the Warrigal Creek Bridge will be reinstated to 100km/hr, and the two-lane operation will be restored by 22 December 2023.
TMR has investigated the structure and determined that the restrictions can be removed, however some rehabilitation works of the bridge will occur in 2024. Details and timing of these rehabilitation works are still being determined and will be communicated at a later time.
Speed limit reinstated and two-lane operation will take place before: Friday, 22 December 2023. All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions.
Traffic changes:
- A speed increase to 100km/hr from 20km/hr when crossing the Bridge.
- Two-lane traffic operation on both bridge approaches will be reinstated.
- Vehicles will no longer travel along the centre line of the bridge at a speed of 20km/hr.
- Crews will be on-site from Saturday, 16 December for the removal of signage and road line marking re-painting (subject to weather conditions).
