Road Conditions: Resurfacing Works on Captain Cook Highway, Palm Cove
Information from Department of Transport and Main Roads North Qld Region
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out asphalt resurfacing works on the Captain Cook Highway, Palm Cove, from Monday 16 October 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.
The resurfacing works will occur between Foley Road and Buchan Street, Palm Cove. The works will be carried out at night to minimise impacts on road users. Crews will be onsite between 7 pm and 5 am and the works are expected to take up to one week to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Variable message signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site prior to works commencing to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Changes in dates due to poor weather or construction conditions will be posted on the VMS.
The works will involve resurfacing the road surface to extend the life of the road pavement and reduce the formation of potholes. The works will improve safety and travelling conditions for road users.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place during the works including temporary speed limit and lane reductions, under coordination of traffic controllers.
Intermittent full closures of the road will be required at times to carry out the works. Road users can expect delays of up to 15-minute periods during the full closures. Road users should plan their journeys accordingly.
Further works including line marking and guardrail installation will be carried out once the resurfacing is complete.
