Road Conditions NSW: Changed traffic conditions on the New England Highway at Tarro Rail Bridge

Transport for NSW reminds fright operators of the changed traffic conditions from Saturday on the New England Highway at Tarro Rail Bridge.

Essential maintenance work will be carried out on the New England Highway at Tarro Rail Bridge from 2am Saturday 3 August to 5am Tuesday 6 August. 

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the work. During these works there will be a 3.5 metre width restriction and a mass restriction of 69 tonnes. 

Vehicles that have widths up to 3.5 metres and gross mass up to 69 tonnes will be able to use the bridge. 

Vehicles exceeding 3.5 metres in width and/or 69 tonnes will be diverted as they are not permitted to travel over the bridge. 

Detour arrangements are via Maitland Road, Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Newcastle Road, Newcastle Link Road and Hunter Expressway. 

OSOM vehicle up to 6 metres wide, 35 metres long and 5.2 metres high will be able to travel via the detour. Class 1 OSOM combinations over these dimensions cannot use this detour due to restrictions along the route.

Heavy vehicles using the detour wanting to travel towards Newcastle or Newcastle Port and travelling north on Newcastle Inner City Bypass are not permitted to turn right on to Maitland Road (Pacific Highway). Instead, please use the existing U-turn bay 470 metres ahead. 

Vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route/s listed in their permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

All lanes will be reopened to all traffic from 5am on Tuesday 6 August.
