Road Conditions FNQ: Safety Works Kennedy Highway, Kuranda
Information from Department of Transport and Main Roads - North Queensland Region
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be improving safety on Kennedy Highway on the Kuranda Range, from 6 November 2023.
This $530,229 project is part of a program of road safety upgrades to improve safety on the state-controlled road network with locations selected based on a history of crashes and/or key safety concerns.
As part of this program of works, TMR will install guardrail on a 300m section of the Kenney Highway, one kilometre south of the Henry Ross Lookout. Widening will be conducted to allow for guardrail installation only if necessary.
The project will be carried out as night and day works. Night crews will be carrying out works from 6pm to 6am. Sealing works will be conducted during the day on Thursday 9 November 2023, between 9am and 3pm.
Works are expected to be complete by late November 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers while the works are carried out. Road users should expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
