Road Conditions: Bruce Highway, Burdekin River Bridge, Ayr - Nightworks

Information from Department of Transport and Main Roads, Heavy Vehicles Unit

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that night works to replace and weld steel components and paint and clean existing protective coatings on the Burdekin River Bridge will occur nightly between 7pm and 5am, commencing Sunday 4 to Friday 9 June 2023. All work is subject to weather conditions and construction progress.

These important works are performed at night when traffic volumes are low, and this enables our work crews to complete the works more efficiently and safely. Traffic controllers will be onsite to minimise disruption to motorists and provide direction during these important rehabilitation works.

Traffic impacts:

  • The Bruce Highway will be reduced to single lane operation each night at 7pm.
  • The bridge will reopen to normal traffic operations at 5am each day, and after the work is completed at 5am on Friday 9 June 2023.
  • Temporary lane closures, speed restrictions and width restrictions will be in place.
  • Motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes – please plan your journey ahead of time at Qldtaffic.
  • Workers, heavy vehicles, and machinery will be working near traffic.
  • Please drive carefully through the roadworks zone, follow direction of traffic controllers, and adhere to reduced speed limits.
