Programmed Vehicle Inspections for heavy vehicles in Queensland
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads - Vehicle Standards (24.02.25)
A reminder that programmed vehicle inspections (PVIs) for heavy vehicles are now delivered by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).
Bookings for heavy vehicle PVIs continue to be made by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and can be made online or by phoning 13 23 80. Fleet inspection bookings can be made by contacting the NHVR on 1300 696 487.
We are conscious that, since the National Services Transition, demand for inspection booking slots is very high in some locations. Customers are being encouraged to book their PVI as soon as they receive their certificate of inspection (COI) reminder notice or further in advance if their local area is serviced infrequently by the NHVR. NHVR has committed to making schedules for booking available at least 6 months in advance in all locations to support better forward planning by customers. TMR will work with customers where there are no suitable inspection booking slots available.
Customers should be aware that extensions of time (EOT) for periods beyond two months of expiry of the COI are only available under special circumstances such as a declared natural disaster. North and Far North Queensland operators impacted by the tropical low that commenced on 29 January 2025 remain eligible to apply for a COI extension for more than two months after COI expiry in recognition of the disruption caused by flooding. Further information about transport and motoring assistance in a disaster activated area is available here.
