NSW-Hexham-Changed traffic Conditions from Sunday18/8/24

There will be changed traffic conditions from Sunday, 18 August, for construction on the Hexham Straight Widening project to continue.

To minimise the impact to motorists the work will be carried out at night from 7pm to 5am, weather permitting.

·         On Sunday 18 August, there will be no right turn from Maitland Road into the Newcastle Inner City Bypass or Old Maitland Road at Sandgate. A detour will be in place via Wallsend Road 800 metres towards Newcastle. The detour will not impact outbound traffic travelling from Newcastle on Maitland Road. 

·         From Monday 19 August to Wednesday 21 August there will be no right turn from Maitland Road into the Newcastle Inner City Bypass. There will be a contraflow for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road between Ironbark Creek bridge to the Newcastle Inner City Bypass. A detour will be in place via Wallsend Road 800 metres towards Newcastle. The detour will not impact outbound traffic travelling from Newcastle on Maitland Road. Map two below

·         On Thursday 22 August, there will be a contra flow for both inbound and outbound lanes on Maitland Road to the north of Ironbark Creek with one lane operating in either direction. Map three below

Over Size Over Mass operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m or with overall width wider than 4.5m and/or vehicles travelling under permit are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141. Significant delays will occur if you fail to contact. 

Please note vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the NHVR.
