The National Transport Commission (NTC) has today released a Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (C-RIS) to gather feedback on the draft Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road & Rail (the Code) and evaluate the impact of proposed changes. A complete draft of the Code accompanies the C-RIS.
Over the past two years, the NTC has been undertaking a comprehensive review of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail, better known as the ADG Code, or the Code. A high-level update of the Code happens every two years, however this is the first full review of the Code since the original seventh edition was released in 2007.
Since January 2023, the NTC has published 12 discussion papers on aspects of the Code that need updating or improving, receiving 138 submissions from over 50 stakeholders. This has helped to shape the draft Code and C-RIS. The draft Code addresses gaps, incorporates best practices, and manages new risks to keep the transport of dangerous goods safe.
We encourage you to share your feedback on the draft Code. Your input will help ensure that the changes make the transport of dangerous goods safer for everyone.
Access the full draft of the Code and the C-RIS. You can find more information, and lodge a submission through the NTC website. The consultation closes on 10 December 2024.
