CQ: Peak Downs Highway | Walkerston Bypass | Opened to traffic
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads - Heavy Vehicles Unit (13.01.2025)
The Department of Transport and Main Roads would like to advise that the Walkerston Bypass is now open to traffic.
The new Walkerston Bypass is the designated heavy vehicle route for B-double and other multi-combination vehicles, including A-double road trains, between the Bruce Highway and the Peak Downs Highway in Mackay.
National Network Map update
The NHVR National Network Map has been updated to reflect applicable gazetted networks on the Walkerston Bypass. Gazetted network access remains unchanged on the Peak Downs Highway except for the section between Mackay Eungella Road and Kellys Road on the Peak Downs Highway. As an alternative, heavy vehicle industry is advised to use the new Walkerston Bypass.
The NHVR route planner has been updated to allow industry to plot the Walkerston Bypass for access permit applications.
